Description
Organic Forest Honey, Soil Association certified, gathered from wild bees deep in the incredibly diverse, highland rainforests of SW Ethiopia.
For many years I heard of the ancient beekeeping traditions of Ethiopia and finally I got to explore the diverse country and it's honeys. I discovered beekeepers who put their log hives high up in the candleabra-shaped trees. I watched them skilfully harvest the honey at dusk, wearing no protective clothing, using just an acute sense of touch. Guided by changes in the note the bees are huming. This beautifully perfumed, fruity organic honey comes from the Southern rainforest regions, where the bees thrive on the dense canopy of white ivy like flowers of the getame tree. This is the first honey to be exported from Ethiopia and the trade has revitalised these village economies. This honey has also won a great taste award.
